Initially focused on producing typewriters and adding machines, Commodore entered the home computer market in the late 1970s with the release of the PET (Personal Electronic Transactor) series. Throughout the 1980s, Commodore became a dominant force in the personal computer industry with the release of iconic machines such as the VIC-20, Commodore 64, and Amiga series.
